Abovahika was started in the Year 1923, by the very qualified Mahua Bhattacharya Adhikary, who became the first woman dancer of India.
She graduated with specialisation in dance art form from University of California, Berkley, at a time when most women over world were
not encouraged to study with higher degrees. Mahua was a batchmate of the Nobel prize winner Marrie Currie
